Addiction Details

This page is for those who would like to understand how Addiction works in Dark Future under the hood. Reading this page is not necessary in order to enjoy the mod.

If you would like to configure Addiction in Mod Settings, you may find this page helpful in understanding what each setting does.

When consuming an addictive substance, a random die roll is made against the Progression Chance for that substance. If the roll is successful, you gain points of Addiction Progress. This die roll happens behind the scenes.

Once Addiction Progress has reached the required amount for the next addiction stage, you advance to that stage.

Addiction Progress is lost over time. This allows for (very) occasional use of certain substances without ever becoming addicted.


Alcohol Addiction

The default Addiction Progression Chance of Alcohol is 50%.

Each time the addiction progress advances, it progresses by 1 point.

The default Addiction Progress Loss per in-game day is 2 points.

Example: You drink 3 alcoholic drinks. Behind the scenes, the mod rolls 33, 67, and 92. The first drink does not count toward addiction. The second and third drinks do, and each progress your addiction by 1 point. You now have an Addiction Progress of 2 points for Alcohol.

You then continue to play the game. After an in-game day (24 in-game hours), your Alcohol Addiction Progress has been reset to 0, because the Addiction Progress Loss per day is 2.

Narcotics Addiction

This addiction is gained from consuming narcotics like Mr. Whitey, Black Lace, Glitter, and Emergency Cardioregulator.

The default Addiction Progression Chance of Nicotine is 85%.

Each time the addiction progress advances, it progresses by 1 point for "normal" narcotics like Mr. Whitey.

It progresses by 2 points for "potent" narcotics like Black Lace, Glitter, and Emergency Cardioregulator.

The default Addiction Progress Loss per in-game day is 0.5 points.
